Climber Carries Gaza's Children Dreams to Mount Everest

Mostafa Salameh hopes to raise awareness and funds for Gazan children affected by the ongoing conflict.
KATMANDU, Nepal: Climber Mostafa Salameh is on a mission to carry the dreams of Gaza’s children to the summit of Mount Everest.

Accompanied by a kite marked with messages from kids in the besieged territory, Salameh aims to raise awareness about the war's devastating impact on its youngest victims.

The conflict, sparked by Hamas's attack on Israel in October 2023, has resulted in over 72,000 deaths in Gaza according to Hamas’s health ministry.

The simple wishes of these children—reflecting hope for a future beyond the conflict—are carried by Salameh as he embarks on his perilous journey.

Salameh, a Palestinian-Jordanian climber aged 56, also seeks to raise $10 million for the UK-based Al-Khair Foundation.

The organization provides essential aid, including nutrition, sanitation, shelter, and psychological support to Gazans.

Displaced and living in dire conditions, Gaza’s population remains in dire straits despite a ceasefire that took effect in October last year.

Salameh's expedition aims to shed light on the plight of these children and garner attention for their cause.

Born in Kuwait to Palestinian parents and raised in a refugee camp, Salameh's own journey is marked by struggle and determination.

His ascent up Everest began with a dream that shifted his life’s path.

Having successfully completed several high-profile expeditions, including the Explorer’s Grand Slam, he now turns his focus toward helping Gaza's children.

Symbolically, this climb represents more than just reaching the summit; it embodies hope for a future where Palestinians can freely visit their homeland.

Through determination and commitment, Salameh remains steadfast in his mission to effect change and draw attention to the plight of those affected by the ongoing conflict.
