LONDON: Britain’s Prince William is set to sell parts of his extensive Duchy of Cornwall estate over the next decade.
The purpose behind this strategic move is to aid fundraising efforts aimed at investing over £500 million ($670 million) across various community projects, including affordable housing and environmental initiatives.
According to a report by the Times newspaper, these sales will account for approximately 20% of the Duchy's vast estate portfolio.
The Duchy holds significant influence as one of Britain’s largest landowners, encompassing extensive tracts of land along with commercial and residential properties.
In discussing this initiative, Will Bax, Chief Executive of the Duchy of Cornwall, emphasized the organization’s commitment to making a positive impact on local communities: "The Duchy should exist to make a meaningful difference, particularly in areas where our influence can be most beneficial".
To achieve this goal, it will engage in substantial investment and may need to rebalance its assets for maximum community impact.
Bax further clarified that the necessary funds would primarily come from reinvesting capital across the Duchy, alongside income generated from development projects, strategic partnerships, and some borrowed capital.
