Zelensky Accuses Russia of Flouting Kyiv-Proposed Ceasefire
Russia accused of committing 1,820 ceasefire violations, while Ukraine gears up for potential long-range attacks.
Ukraine has accused Russia of flouting a proposed ceasefire by carrying out numerous assaults and strikes on the battlefield.
According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, Russia chose to ignore peace efforts by launching multiple air strikes and drone attacks on May 6, despite Kyiv's offer to halt hostilities.
Zelensky stated that this was an obvious disregard for the ceasefire and a desire to save lives.
The Ukrainian leader emphasized that his country remains committed to seeking peace but will respond decisively if Russia continues its aggression.
The proposed ceasefire was initially suggested by Zelensky in response to Russian President Vladimir Putin's call for a temporary truce from May 8 to 9, coinciding with Victory Day commemorations.
However, Ukraine accuses Russia of failing to adhere to this proposal and has documented over 1,820 violations by late morning on the day it was proposed.
Russia has not confirmed its adherence to the Ukrainian ceasefire offer and cites an increased threat from Ukrainian attacks as a reason for maintaining military readiness.
In response to potential disruptions of Victory Day commemorations, Russia has warned diplomatic missions to evacuate their staff promptly in case of any mass strikes by Moscow.
In retaliation, the Russian Ministry of Defense has threatened a massive missile attack on Kyiv if Ukraine disrupts victory celebrations.
Additionally, there have been reports of drone attacks targeting infrastructure and industrial sites in major Ukrainian cities such as Kharkiv, Kryvyi Rih, and Zaporizhzhia.
The conflict between the two countries has intensified, with neither side showing any signs of backing down from their positions.
The stalled peace talks to end the ongoing war have not yielded tangible results so far, and both sides continue to escalate their military actions.
As tensions rise, Ukraine remains prepared for long-range attacks against Russia's military-industrial and energy sites, aiming to weaken the Kremlin's capabilities in the ongoing conflict.
However, some Ukrainians question the effectiveness of maintaining a ceasefire when their cities and troops on the frontlines are still under attack.
