US Intercepts Sanctioned Vessel in Arabian Sea Amid Iran Blockade
The US military's Central Command intercepted a sanctioned merchant vessel in the Arabian Sea, enforcing a blockade on Iranian energy exports.
The US military's Central Command announced on Saturday that it had intercepted a sanctioned merchant vessel in the Arabian Sea.
This action is part of ongoing efforts to enforce a US-led blockade aimed at curbing Iran's energy exports, which are subject to US sanctions.
The vessel in question, identified as the Sevan, is alleged to be part of a 19-vessel 'shadow fleet' involved in transporting Iranian oil and gas products to foreign markets in contravention of these sanctions.
According to Central Command, the interception was carried out by a US Navy helicopter launched from the guided-missile destroyer USS Pinckney.
Following the interception, the Sevan is said to be compliant with instructions to return toward Iran under escort, marking another enforcement action related to the blockade.
This incident follows a series of maritime actions taken as part of this ongoing strategy.
US officials have emphasized that the targeted fleet has been sanctioned by the US Department of the Treasury for facilitating the transport of billions of dollars' worth of Iranian energy exports, including propane and butane.
Since the initiation of the blockade, Central Command reported that 37 vessels have been redirected, highlighting Washington's efforts to diminish Tehran's oil revenues amid heightened regional tensions.
