US officials started constructing a new embassy in Riyadh on Wednesday. The groundbreaking ceremony featured a large image of the future embassy.
Ambassador Michael Ratney emphasized the evolving strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia in various fields, highlighting the growth of the embassy as a symbol of strengthening ties.
Photos from the event were shared online, celebrating the enduring US-Saudi relationship.
Several dignitaries attended the ceremony, including US Deputy Assistant Secretary Daniel Benaim, Deputy Chief of Mission Alison Dilworth, and Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Al-Khuraiji.
Ratney remarked that the new embassy, which will be the largest in Saudi Arabia, represents the broadening scope of US-Saudi relations beyond traditional sectors like energy and security to encompass business, technology, education, arts, and culture.
Benaim praised the embassy’s design, inspired by Saudi ecology and incorporating advanced technology and renewable energy, while also blending local architecture with modern, secure, and sustainable elements. The facility will span 27.5 acres in the Diplomatic Quarter.
