Syrian Authorities Dismantle 'Terrorist Cell' in Homs, Seize Large Cache of Weapons
The Syrian Interior Ministry confirms the elimination of a cell aiming to destabilize security and stability in central province.
LONDON: In a recent crackdown on insurgent activity, the Syrian authorities have successfully dismantled what they term as a 'terrorist cell' within the central province of Homs.
This operation reflects the ongoing efforts by the government to reassert its control over all territories within Syria.
According to the Interior Ministry, the group in question was allegedly planning to disrupt security and stability in Homs.
The intervention led to the death of two members when security forces conducted a raid on their hideout, as reported by the Syrian Arab News Agency. The operation also resulted in the seizure of a substantial cache of weapons, including anti-tank missile launchers, sniper rifles, automatic firearms, RPG launchers, and various types of ammunition.
This move underscores the government's commitment to target the hideouts of dormant cells and counteract the sources of terrorism across the nation.Since the fall of President Assad's regime in 2024, Syria has witnessed a series of deadly attacks.
In December, an assault on a joint patrol near Palmyra in Homs resulted in fatalities for two US soldiers and a civilian interpreter, while three US soldiers and two Syrian security personnel were injured.
This incident highlighted the ongoing threats faced by the region. In November, Syria officially joined the Global Coalition against Daesh, marking the 90th country to do so.
Established in 2014, this coalition was formed in response to the territorial control of Daesh over large areas of Syria and northern Iraq.
Despite being driven out of most of its territory, Daesh continues to pose a significant threat in the region, necessitating ongoing efforts from international coalitions such as this one.
