SRCA approves $2 million in support of emergency appeal on Türkiye, Syria earthquakes

The Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) has earmarked $2 million in support of the emergency appeal launched by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) for the Syria-Türkiye earthquakes.
SRCA President Dr. Jalal Bin Mohammed Al-Owaisi and Chief Executive Officer and Secretary General of the IFRC Jagan Chapagain signed Tuesday the joint executive program of the emergency appeal at IFRC headquarters in Geneva.

Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations Office at Geneva Abdulmohsen Majed Bin Khothaila attended the signing ceremony.

The program includes securing the needs of those affected by the earthquakes, including shelter, food, and medical and household supplies. The program also provides post-crisis recovery programs that cover psychological and physical health services and secure protection for the vulnerable.

The program comes in response to the emergency appeals launched by the IFRC for the Red Cross and Red Crescent authorities in support of both the Turkish Red Crescent and Syrian Arab Red Crescent, said Dr. Al-Owaisi.

In this regard, the SRCA has allocated $2 million as a contribution from the authority to support this program, he affirmed, adding that the assistance comes in continuation of Saudi Arabia’s efforts to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the earthquakes.

Dr. Al-Owaisi said the Kingdom has been keen, since the first days of the earthquake, to operate an airlift, sending relief airplanes to the two quake-hit countries.

“Saudi Arabia also sent teams specialized in humanitarian and medical response, search and rescue, who contributed to saving the lives of many of the stranded as a result of the earthquake,” Dr. Al-Owaisi stressed.

“The implementation of the program is an affirmation by SCRA of the importance of concerted international efforts in supporting humanitarian and relief work in order to help the earthquake victims and provide integrated support to the afflicted,” Dr. Al-Owaisi stated.

The Kingdom, represented by the SRCA and as a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, is keen to respond to the periodical emergency calls launched by the IFRC.
