This incident highlights the ongoing issue of migration through the Balkan region.
Since 2015, these countries have become key transit routes for refugees and migrants from regions such as the Middle East, Asia, and Africa, who seek to reach the European Union in search of better opportunities and safety from conflict and economic hardship.
These individuals often rely on smuggling networks to assist them in their journey.
