The Saudi Royal Air Defense Force officially inaugurates its first Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile system unit.
The Saudi Royal Air Defense Force has officially commissioned the first unit of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile system during a ceremony at the Air Defense Forces Institute in Jeddah.
The Ministry of Defense announced that the unit was handed over to the commander of the 1st Air Defense Group, marking its operational readiness.
Lt. Gen. Mazyad Al-Amro, Commander of the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces, attended the ceremony and formally inaugurated the unit.The commissioning follows successful system testing and field training of personnel within the Kingdom.
The deployment of the first THAAD battery is part of a broader defense project aimed at enhancing air defense capabilities and protecting vital strategic infrastructure and national interests.
The Air Defense Forces had previously graduated personnel for the first and second THAAD units, who completed specialized training courses at Fort Bliss in Texas.
