Riyadh: Members of the Saudi Arabia's Masam project successfully removed 1,273 explosive devices from various regions of Yemen last week.
The cleared items included 1,157 unexploded ordnances, 105 anti-tank mines, three anti-personnel mines, and eight improvised explosive devices, as per a recent report.
These explosives were planted haphazardly across the country, putting civilians at risk, particularly children, women, and the elderly.
The demining efforts took place in key locations such as Marib, Aden, Jouf, Shabwa, Taiz, Hodeidah, Lahij, Sanaa, Al-Bayda, Al-Dhale, and Saada.
Since its inception in 2018, the Masam project has managed to clear a total of 557,007 mines, with an additional 5,818 devices cleared in April alone.
The teams involved aim to clear villages, roads, and schools to facilitate safe movement for civilians and ensure efficient delivery of humanitarian aid.
Furthermore, the initiative provides training for local demining engineers, offers them state-of-the-art equipment, and extends support to Yemenis injured by these explosive remnants.
KSrelief, Saudi Arabia's humanitarian arm, continues its efforts through the Masam project to clear mines from Yemeni territory, thereby enhancing civilian safety and promoting a safe and dignified living environment for all.
