Saudi lab gains global recognition for equine testing
The National Center for the Prevention and Control of Plant Pests and Animal Diseases' animal health laboratory in Riyadh region receives international acclaim from 33 countries to conduct equine disease testing.
The National Center for the Prevention and Control of Plant Pests and Animal Diseases has achieved a significant milestone as its animal health laboratory based in the Riyadh region has been recognized globally.
This prestigious recognition was granted by an international coalition consisting of 33 countries, including 27 EU member states, the United States, Japan, and several Gulf nations, to conduct testing for equine diseases associated with cross-border movements.
This global acknowledgment highlights Saudi Arabia's advanced capabilities in laboratory work and enhances its role in regulating horse trade across borders.
It also strengthens the Kingdom's position in equestrian events both locally and internationally.
The recognition is founded on a robust laboratory framework characterized by precise testing procedures and high-quality output, which significantly improves testing efficiency.
The system ensures that results align with stringent international standards.
According to the Saudi Press Agency report from Monday, this achievement can be traced back to an extensive development initiative led by the center between 2021 and 2025.
This effort has enabled the issuance of national certificates approving horse exports, showcasing the center's expertise in diagnosing diseases related to equine movements on an international scale.
This development aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 objectives aimed at advancing the livestock and equestrian sectors while bolstering the Kingdom’s global standing in these areas.
