Diplomatic discussions planned to address hostilities between Ukraine and Russia.
Saudi Arabia is set to host an upcoming meeting between the United States and Ukraine in Jeddah next week, as part of ongoing international efforts to establish a peace framework aimed at ending the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed the Kingdom's commitment to facilitating dialogue and diplomatic initiatives to secure a lasting peace in Ukraine.
In recent years, Saudi Arabia has emerged as a significant player in international diplomatic efforts, hosting numerous meetings geared towards resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
U.S. President
Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, confirmed the coordination of the meeting with Ukrainian officials on Thursday, indicating that discussions are ongoing to prepare for the gathering.
Witkoff stated that the meeting is expected to take place in either Riyadh or Jeddah as part of broader negotiations aimed at drafting a peace agreement and establishing an initial ceasefire.
"We’re now in discussions to coordinate a meeting with the Ukrainians," Witkoff noted during a press briefing, highlighting the objective of creating a foundation for sustainable peace between Ukraine and Russia.
In a related development, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced plans to travel to Saudi Arabia on Monday to meet with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.
Zelensky shared this information on his X account, stating, "Next week, on Monday, my visit to Saudi Arabia is planned to meet the Crown Prince.
After that, my team will remain in Saudi Arabia to work with our American partners."
This forthcoming meeting follows a period of tension characterized by an exchange between Trump and Zelensky at the White House on February 28. Despite past friction, both parties have resumed discussions, which now include negotiations regarding a revenue-sharing agreement involving Ukraine’s mineral resources.
During a recent speech to a joint session of Congress, Trump disclosed that he received a letter from Zelensky expressing a willingness to engage in peace talks.
"I have received a letter from Zelensky in which he stated he is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible," Trump stated, indicating a renewed interest in negotiations ahead of the forthcoming meeting.
