Saudi Arabia Railways Increases Haramain High Speed Train Trips and Seats for Record Hajj Season
During the current Hajj season, Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) will run 3,800 trips of the Haramain High Speed Train to transport pilgrims.
With an increased seating capacity of 1.6 million, SAR is accommodating a record number of pilgrims.
The train, which has five stations along its 453-kilometer railroad connecting Makkah, Madinah, and Jeddah, has added 100,000 seats compared to last year.
SAR has announced its readiness to receive pilgrims through the operational plan, which includes stations in Sulaymaniyah district, Jeddah's King Abdulaziz International Airport, and King Abdullah Economic City.
A record-breaking 3,800 trips were made on the Haramain High Speed Train during the scheduled Islamic pilgrimage period from May 9 to June 25, marking an increase of over 430 trips from the previous year.
The train, which is one of the 10 fastest passenger trains in the world with a speed of 300 kilometers per hour, operates with a fleet of 35 trains, each with a capacity of 417 seats.
The train is eco-friendly with zero carbon emissions and helps preserve road infrastructure by reducing the need for thousands of buses.
