Saudi Arabia Condemns Drone Attack on Khartoum Airport
The Kingdom urges de-escalation and respect for international humanitarian law in Sudan's ongoing conflict.
Riyadh: Saudi Arabia has expressed strong condemnation of a drone attack targeting Khartoum International Airport.
The drone, intercepted by Sudan’s air defenses on Monday as it approached from the south, caused no damage or casualties, according to airport officials.
Saudi Arabia's Foreign Ministry reiterated its call for the preservation of Sudan's unity, the safety of its people, and the maintenance of its security and stability.
It also emphasized the importance of safeguarding civilian sites and vital infrastructure from conflict.
Sudan has been embroiled in a military conflict between the Sudanese military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces since April 2023.
Saudi Arabia called on all parties to cease hostilities, de-escalate tensions, and adhere to the commitments outlined in the Jeddah Declaration of May 11, 2023, which focuses on the protection of civilians and adherence to international humanitarian law.
The Kingdom further urged Sudan’s neighbors to respect its sovereignty and independence, and to prevent their territories from being utilized for such attacks.
The Information Ministry of Sudan has assured that the airport would resume operations following completion of standard safety checks.
