Billionaire biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy has clinched the Republican nomination for Ohio governor, setting the stage for a competitive fall campaign against Democratic opponent Amy Acton.
COLUMBUS, Ohio: Billionaire biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy secured the Republican nomination for Ohio governor on Tuesday, positioning himself to face off this fall against the state’s former
COVID-era health director, Democrat Amy Acton.
With the endorsement of President
Donald Trump and support from the state's Republican Party, Ramaswamy presented himself as a strong candidate despite potential headwinds due to the president's declining popularity regarding the Iran conflict and rising living costs.
In contrast, Acton, an unopposed Democratic candidate with a robust public profile and fundraising abilities, aims to help her party regain control of the governor's office after a 20-year absence.
The state also witnessed the setting of another major matchup for November as former Senator Sherrod Brown easily defeated his primary challenger and will now seek to unseat Senator Jon Husted.
The Senate Leadership Fund, a top Republican super PAC, has pledged $79 million in support of Husted, who faced no opposition during his primary.
