Saudi Arabia calls for immediate halt to Israeli aggression in Gaza, enhances humanitarian aid, and climbs to fourth in UN E-Government Index. Jordan intercepts drone near airspace while EU mission averts disaster in Red Sea after Yemen militia attack.
Saudi Arabia has called for an immediate halt to Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and enhanced its humanitarian aid efforts, as highlighted in a recent ministerial meeting in Madrid aimed at progressing a two-state solution. Meanwhile, the kingdom reviewed and praised Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's diplomatic interactions and the outcomes of the Saudi-Chinese Joint Committee.
Building on these diplomatic efforts, Saudi Arabia has also made significant strides in digital governance, climbing to fourth place globally and first in its region on the UN’s 2024 E-Government Development Index. This achievement is a testament to the advancements driven by the Vision 2030 plan, which has notably improved the nation's digital infrastructure and service maturity.
Furthermore, the kingdom's Deputy Minister for International Multilateral Affairs, Abdulrahman Al-Rassi, engaged in diplomatic talks with Ukraine’s Ambassador Anatolii Petrenko and El Salvador’s Ambassador Ricardo Ernesto Cucalon Levy, reflecting Saudi Arabia's ongoing commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
Turning to security operations, an EU-led mission has successfully towed a Greek oil tanker attacked by Yemen’s Houthi militia to safety, averting an environmental disaster in the Red Sea. This comes after the tanker MV Sounion was severely damaged off the coast of Hodeidah, with the EU’s Operation Aspides now monitoring the situation.
In a similar vein of heightened security, the Jordanian military successfully intercepted a drone attempting to enter its airspace, underscoring Jordan's vigilant border security measures. This incident further illustrates Jordan’s proactive stance against threats along its borders with Syria, Iraq, Israel, and the West Bank.
Lastly, a US MQ-9 Reaper drone has crashed near Yemen, with the Pentagon investigating amid claims by Houthi rebels of downing multiple such drones. Major General Pat Ryder disputed these claims, highlighting ongoing tensions following previous drone losses and the Houthis' continued attacks on maritime targets in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
