RCU and Jockey Club of Saudi Arabia Sign MoU to Elevate AlUla as Equestrian Hub
The Royal Commission for AlUla partners with the Jockey Club to develop horse-racing facilities, talent training and veterinary infrastructure in NW Saudi Arabia
The Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Jockey Club of Saudi Arabia to bolster equestrian sports and horse-racing infrastructure in AlUla, in support of the region’s ambition to become a global destination for heritage-sport tourism.
Under the terms of the agreement, the Jockey Club will extend its expertise in race operations, programme planning and international event standards to AlUla’s emerging equestrian ecosystem.
The partnership also includes cooperation with the Equine Hospital in Riyadh to provide enhanced veterinary care, saddling services and welfare standards for horses, along with training programmes to cultivate national talent in the equestrian field.
RCU is developing AlUla as a centre for equestrian and heritage-sport experiences consistent with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 diversification agenda.
The MoU aligns with existing projects in the region—such as the planned 285-hectare Al Mu’tadil Equestrian Village, which will include arenas, endurance tracks, polo fields and stables for hundreds of horses—and complements AlUla’s growing portfolio of world-class leisure and sporting destinations.
By leveraging the Jockey Club’s operational know-how and partnerships with world-class equestrian organisations, RCU aims to elevate AlUla’s equestrian offering, attract international competition and build domestic capacity in sports, tourism and hospitality.
This move underscores the Kingdom’s broader commitment to nurturing niche sectors and creating high-value cultural-sport platforms that support economic and regional development objectives.
