Jordanian King and UK Foreign Secretary Discuss Gaza Ceasefire and Bilateral Cooperation
His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan and UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper discussed the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, as well as enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade, industry, and defense.
LONDON: In a significant meeting held in Amman, King Abdullah II of Jordan and UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper focused on intensifying efforts to provide humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
The discussion emphasized the need for sustained support to ensure that the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas remains effective.The meeting saw the presence of Crown Prince Hussein and covered a wide range of topics aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.
Key among these was enhancing cooperation in trade, industry, and defense sectors.
King Abdullah II also addressed concerns regarding dangerous escalations against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and violations of holy sites in Jerusalem.
He called for support to Syria and Lebanon in maintaining their security, stability, and territorial sovereignty.Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, along with Director Alaa Batayneh, were part of the Jordanian delegation.
The meeting also included discussions on regional and international developments, as well as exploring ways to bolster military cooperation between Jordan and the UK.
This involves improving the readiness and capabilities of the Jordanian military in training, armament, and coordination.Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, met with Vice Adm. Edward Ahlgren, the UK's defense senior adviser to the Middle East and North Africa.
The meeting covered various aspects including regional security challenges, defense coordination, training exchanges, and operational readiness in Jordan.
Additionally, the UK delegation was briefed on Jordan's humanitarian and medical efforts in Gaza and the West Bank.The discussions also involved senior Jordanian officers and the British defense attache to review the implementation of defense agreements.
These programs aim at strengthening bilateral military coordination and planning between the two nations.
