Iran Blames US for Failed Talks and Meets with Putin in Russia

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin comes after unsuccessful negotiations between Iran and the US.
In Saint Petersburg, Iran's top diplomat, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, blamed Washington for the failure of recent talks.

His comments came before a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin as part of a diplomatic tour that included visits to Oman and Pakistan over the past few days.

Putin assured Araghchi that Moscow would do everything in its power to help achieve peace in the Middle East.

He emphasized that his country would work towards peace that benefits all parties involved, according to Russian state media.

Araghchi's visit to Islamabad marked the first and only round of unsuccessful talks between Washington and Tehran.

The potential for fresh negotiations over the weekend was dashed when US President Donald Trump canceled a planned trip by his envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Araghchi stated that the US' approach in previous negotiations led to their failure due to excessive demands.

Despite the lack of formal negotiations, Iran reportedly passed written messages to the Americans via Pakistan outlining red lines, including nuclear issues and control over the Strait of Hormuz.

Fars news agency clarified that these messages were not part of any official negotiations.

The ongoing conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran has resulted in a ceasefire but continues to cause global economic instability.

Iran blockades the Strait of Hormuz, which has led to rising oil prices and concerns over food security for developing countries.

In response, the US has imposed its own blockade on Iranian ports.

Domestically, President Trump faces pressure as fuel prices increase due to Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

The conflict remains unpopular among Americans as midterm elections approach in November.

Araghchi discussed the importance of safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz during his visit to Oman.

As a country situated near the strait, Iran must maintain dialogue with Oman to secure common interests.

Araghchi's meeting with Putin is confirmed by both Russian and Iranian state media sources.

The Revolutionary Guards in Iran have stated that they will not lift their blockade on the Strait of Hormuz, deeming it an essential strategy for maintaining control over the waterway and deterring the US.
