Hezbollah Reinforces Fighters in South Lebanon Despite Disarmament
Lebanese militant group Hezbollah has brought reinforcements and weapons to southern Lebanon since the start of the war with Israel on March 2, according to the organization's director of media relations.
The Lebanese army declared in January that it had completed disarming Hezbollah near the Israeli border in southern Lebanon.
This region has witnessed multiple conflicts between Israel and Hezbollah, culminating in a ceasefire on April 17, 2024.
The army implemented a plan following a 2024 ceasefire agreement that ended the latest war between the two.
Hezbollah's director of media relations, Youssef Al Zein, stated during an interview with journalists that the group had successfully 'introduced forces and arms in the course of the battle' against Israel.
These reinforcements did not utilize roads controlled by the Lebanese army.
According to Zein, Hezbollah is confident in the national army's commitment to avoiding confrontation.
If Israel managed to advance deeper into Lebanese territory, it was largely due to Hezbollah's disarmament south of the Litani River and the destruction of its infrastructure, including tunnels.
Despite this, Zein emphasized that Hezbollah has reconstituted its forces since the last war and is prepared for a prolonged battle.
The conflict witnessed Israel announcing the completion of its ground forces deployment in southern Lebanon on April 7, establishing a 10-kilometer-deep 'security zone.'
Hezbollah has been employing low-cost one-way attack drones controlled via fiber-optic cables against Israeli forces.
Zein acknowledged the enemy's technological superiority but highlighted their ability to exploit weaknesses, specifically mentioning the manufacture of these drones in Lebanon.
Such attacks have resulted in the deaths of two Israeli soldiers and a civilian contractor within a week.
The conflict escalated when Hezbollah dragged Lebanon into a broader regional war initiated by US-Israeli strikes on Iran.
In response to Israeli retaliation, more than 2,600 people have been killed, with ongoing strikes against Lebanon despite the established truce.
