Family of UK Aid Worker Killed in Gaza Drone Strike Demands Independent Investigation

Calls for an independent probe intensify after British aid worker's death in Gaza drone strike.
The family of British aid worker James Kirby, killed by an Israeli drone strike in Gaza in April, is demanding an independent investigation into his death. The attack on a World Central Kitchen aid convoy led to the tragic loss of seven lives, including three Britons. Despite formal reprimands and a sorrowful statement from Israel, the UK government has yet to launch the requested inquiry, prompting Kirby’s family to call for transparency and accountability.

In contrast to international tensions, BIM Ventures has partnered with SC Ventures, a unit of Standard Chartered, to accelerate the digital transformation and growth of innovative startups in Saudi Arabia. Announced at the 24 Fintech conference in Riyadh, this collaboration aims to blend SC Ventures' global expertise with BIM Ventures' regional insights to support Saudi Vision 2030. Together, they will focus on creating innovative solutions in fintech, property, and investment technology, driving sustainable economic growth.

Adding to Saudi Arabia's burgeoning economic initiatives, Italian engineering firm Saipem has secured two offshore contracts worth $1 billion with Aramco. This deal covers extensive production work in the Marjan, Zuluf, and Safaniyah oil fields, using regional construction vessels and local fabrication facilities. Marking its strong presence in the Middle East, Saipem, established in 1957, contributes to global engineering solutions with around 30,000 employees.

Amidst these economic strides, Saudi authorities have made a significant bust, intercepting 236 kilograms of cocaine hidden in a banana shipment at King Abdullah Port in Rabigh. The operation, conducted by the General Directorate of Narcotics Control and assisted by the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, showcases their commitment to combating drug smuggling. The public is encouraged to report any drug trafficking information through designated emergency numbers and channels.

In diplomatic news, Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah met with Saudi Minister of State Prince Turki bin Mohammed bin Fahd at Bayan Palace. Prince Turki, conveying greetings from King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral ties. Both nations continue to foster close relations, represented by officials including Saudi Ambassador Prince Sultan bin Saad bin Khalid.

Ending on a somber note, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman performed the funeral prayer for Princess Latifa bint Abdulaziz Al Saud at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh. The late princess, whose passing was announced by the Royal Court, was laid to rest at Al Oud Cemetery, marking a moment of reflection and respect for her memory.
