Denmark to Close Embassy in Iraq as Military Presence Reduces
The Danish embassy in Iraq will be shutting down on May 31, as announced by the Danish foreign ministry on Tuesday.
The embassy, which is located in Baghdad, was officially inaugurated in 2020 to provide diplomatic support for Denmark's command and contribution to the NATO Mission Iraq (NMI).
However, the majority of Denmark's military presence in Iraq has been withdrawn since then.
Therefore, the embassy is no longer necessary to maintain Denmark's diplomatic and military engagement in the country.
The closure of the embassy marks the end of a chapter in Denmark's involvement in Iraq, which has seen the country provide support to NATO's mission in the region.
