Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi spoke with US President Joe Biden on Monday about the ongoing ceasefire negotiations between Hamas and Israel.
The call focused on the potential danger of military escalation in Rafah and the humanitarian crisis it would add to.
El-Sisi emphasized the importance of allowing unfettered access to humanitarian aid and the need to resolve the issue of hostage exchanges between the two parties.
A Hamas delegation is currently in Cairo discussing a ceasefire deal with Israel.
Presidents Biden and El-Sisi of the US and Egypt, respectively, emphasized the need to prevent the conflict in Gaza from expanding and reiterated the significance of the two-state solution for peace and stability in the region.
Biden also spoke with Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani about the situation in Gaza and their efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement.
