The US ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, warned of an impending "large-scale massacre" in El-Fasher, a humanitarian hub in the Darfur region of Sudan.
The city has seen bombardment and clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces since mid-April.
Thomas-Greenfield made this statement following a UN Security Council meeting on Sudan.
The text reports that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied militias have destroyed several villages west of El-Fasher in Sudan, and are planning an imminent attack on El-Fasher.
This comes after last year's fighting between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and RSF paramilitaries, which has displaced millions of people.
El-Fasher serves as the main humanitarian hub in the western region of Darfur, home to around 12 million people.
A potential attack on El-Fasher would add to the existing disaster.
