Al-Ahsa Team Praised by Governor for UNESCO Creative Cities Network Contributions

Riyadh: A team from Al-Ahsa was lauded by the region's governor on Tuesday for its work in securing a significant role within the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
Al-Ahsa Gov. Prince Saud bin Talal, along with Mayor Essam Al-Mulla, acknowledged the team's success in winning the chair of coordination for creative cities globally in the realm of crafts and folk arts.
During the reception, the governor was briefed on the team’s efforts to develop Al-Ahsa's creative portfolio and the achievements that have bolstered its international profile.
Prince Saud emphasized that this recognition underscores the global appreciation of Al-Ahsa's cultural and creative assets, which are integral to the nation's identity and represent the depth of its civilization.
The governor highlighted the key support from Saudi Arabia’s leadership in the cultural sphere as a driving factor behind Al-Ahsa's achievement.
This distinction has enabled stronger ties with member cities through cooperative exchanges of expertise, facilitated global cultural event activations, encouraged cultural tourism, and fostered sustainable development opportunities, according to Prince Saud.
Mayor Al-Mulla commended the collaborative efforts of the municipality in enhancing Al-Ahsa’s creative portfolio, supporting artisans, and integrating its rich cultural heritage into the broader developmental landscape.
He noted the diverse array of traditional crafts and industries unique to Al-Ahsa, which have been passed down through generations within the community.
The accolade further solidifies Al-Ahsa's status as an international hub for creativity and paves the way for expanded global cooperation and exchange, aligning with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.
Al-Ahsa was first named a UNESCO Creative City in 2015, specializing in Crafts and Folk Arts.
