Six Saudi students bring home six medals from the international math competition in North Macedonia.
RIYADH: Six Saudi students have achieved notable success at the 29th Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad held in North Macedonia from June 24 to 29.
The event saw participation from 135 students representing 23 countries, highlighting its prestigious nature as a competitive arena for gifted young mathematicians.
The performance of the Saudi team was commendable as they secured two gold, two silver, and two bronze medals.
This accomplishment underscores the strong foundation in mathematics and rigorous training that these students have undergone, reflecting positively on their international standing.
The success is attributed to years of dedicated preparation led by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity, in collaboration with the Saudi Ministry of Education.
The selection process for team members was thorough, involving rigorous tests as part of the National Program for Gifted Identification and Mathematics, which ensures that only the most talented students are chosen to represent Saudi Arabia at such prestigious competitions.
Their training involved mentorship from both local and international experts, further enhancing their competitive edge.
This year's participation marked Saudi Arabia’s 14th entry in the Olympiad, significantly increasing its medal tally.
The country now boasts a total of 11 gold, 24 silver, and 29 bronze medals won throughout its history with this competition.
Comparatively, at the previous event, Saudi Arabia managed to secure one silver and four bronze medals, indicating progressive improvement over time.
The Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad was established in 1997 as an annual mathematics contest for students under the age of 15, allowing up to six participants per country.
It rotates among member countries, including those from the Balkans and Cyprus, establishing it as a respected regional competition in mathematical excellence.
