Saudi Foster Care: Over 11,000 Families Have Adopted Orphans
More than 11,000 Saudi families have taken in orphaned children, according to the national foster care association.
Riyadh - The Al-Wedad Charity Association has announced that over 11,000 Saudi families have provided foster care for orphaned children.
This announcement was made on World Adoption Day, highlighting the substantial support network within the Kingdom for these vulnerable children.The national foster care program is overseen by the Al-Wedad Charity Association, which has been authorized by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development to manage the care of orphaned children with unknown parentage.
The organization recently launched a campaign to showcase the heartfelt stories of both foster parents and their adopted children.In promotional videos shared on social media, several adoptive parents expressed their joy and gratitude for the adoption process.
One parent described the feeling of being hugged by her child as akin to receiving affection for her heart.
Another family emphasized their newfound happiness since welcoming their adopted child into their lives.The association's CEO, Dhaif Allah Al-Nami, underscored that the campaign is part of broader efforts aimed at increasing awareness and promoting social acceptance of adoption in Saudi society.
By highlighting the mutual bonds of love and belonging formed between foster families and children, Al-Wedad seeks to encourage more individuals to consider providing foster care.The importance of fostering within Islamic tradition has also been emphasized by the association.
They reference a hadith from Prophet Muhammad that highlights the significance of caring for orphans: "I and the person who looks after an orphan and provides for him will be in Paradise like this," as described through the joining of his index and middle fingers.In addition to raising awareness, Al-Wedad offers comprehensive support services.
These include social, psychological, and educational counseling to ensure that both children and families receive adequate care throughout the adoption process.
Temporary accommodation is also provided by the association for orphaned children, along with assistance in breastfeeding for those placed within foster families.
