Saudi Crown Prince Congratulates Lebanon's Prime Minister on Government Formation
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam's cabinet receives parliamentary support despite tensions with Hezbollah.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia has extended his congratulations to Lebanon's Prime Minister Nawaf Salam following the recent formation of his government.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, the congratulatory message was communicated via a formal cable on Thursday.
Salam's new government secured a vote of confidence in the Lebanese Parliament on Wednesday, garnering support from 95 out of 128 lawmakers.
The government includes backing from Hezbollah’s parliamentary bloc, a crucial ally, despite tensions noted in the government’s adopted statement that implicitly criticized the group’s arsenal.
Nawaf Salam, a distinguished jurist who previously served as the president of the International Court of Justice, was appointed to form a new government last month amidst a challenging backdrop.
His appointment followed a severe conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which resulted in the deaths of more than 4,000 individuals and left extensive devastation across Lebanon.
In his message, Crown Prince Mohammed expressed his wishes for Salam's success in his new responsibilities and extended hopes for continued progress and prosperity for the Lebanese populace.
