Reef Saudi: Doubling Rose Production, Aiming for 2 Billion Roses by 2026 - A Sustainable Agricultural Development Program
The Reef Saudi program, an initiative focused on sustainable agricultural rural development in Saudi Arabia, has experienced significant growth in rose production over the past four years.
The program, which aims to boost productivity of essential agricultural crops, reported a production increase of nearly 500 million roses, from 500 million in 2020 to 960 million roses in 2021.
This represents a 34 percent rise in rose production from the previous year.
The Reef program aspires to reach a production target of 2 billion roses by 2026.
In addition to enhancing rose production, the program aims to diversify agricultural production across rural areas and ensure the optimal and sustainable use of natural agricultural and water resources.
To support this mission, the Reef program has established plant nurseries throughout the Kingdom, along with mobile clinics to diagnose plant diseases.
These efforts are designed to raise the living standards of farmers and rural families, increase efficiency and productivity, and improve food security.
The Reef program encompasses six sectors: fruit, coffee, honey, rose, rainfed agriculture, and a support program for rural families in agriculture.
By focusing on these sectors, the program aims to foster sustainable agricultural growth and development in Saudi Arabia.
