Donald Trump has been targeted twice in just two months. In mid-July, a shooting attempt at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania was thwarted, and two months later, another threat was neutralized at his West Palm Beach golf course.
Speaking of threats, a suspect named Ryan Wesley Routh was arrested after an apparent assassination attempt on Trump at his Florida golf course. Secret Service agents intercepted Routh, who fled but was later apprehended in Martin County.
Shifting to Europe, Storm Boris has wreaked havoc in central and eastern parts of the continent, causing severe flooding and the tragic loss of at least eight lives. Thousands have been evacuated in Austria, Poland, and Romania, with significant damage reported in affected areas.
Back in the U.S., Ohio officials have rebutted claims by Republican VP candidate JD Vance, who suggested on CNN that Haitian immigrants are eating pets in Springfield. Gov. Mike DeWine and Mayor Rob Rue emphasized the positive contributions of these immigrants, even as the community deals with bomb threats and safety challenges.
Over in Italy, prosecutors are pursuing a six-year prison sentence for Deputy PM Matteo Salvini, related to his 2019 actions blocking a migrant ship from docking. Salvini defends his actions as border protection, with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni showing her support, as a verdict is expected next month.
