Iran's President Pledges Reforms on Morality Police and Internet Restrictions
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian vowed to ensure morality police will not 'bother' women anymore on the second anniversary of Mahsa Amini's death. Amini's death led to widespread protests in 2022. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has committed to ensuring that the morality police will no longer 'bother' women, marking the second anniversary of Mahsa Amini's death.
Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurd, died on September 16, 2022, after being detained for violating the Islamic dress code.
Her death sparked nationwide protests, resulting in numerous casualties and arrests.
Pezeshkian, who succeeded Ebrahim Raisi in July, also promises to ease internet restrictions long imposed by the government.
Touching on foreign relations, Pezeshkian addressed tensions with the United States and reiterated that Iran has not provided military aid to Russia in the Ukraine conflict.
