Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms to Persist Across Saudi Arabia as Weather System Intensifies

Saudi Arabia’s meteorological authority warns of continued thunderstorms, strong winds, and flash-flood risks across multiple regions amid an active unstable weather system
Saudi Arabia’s National Center for Meteorology has warned that unstable weather conditions marked by thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and strong winds will continue across large parts of the Kingdom as an active weather system persists over the region.

The forecast indicates that rainfall of varying intensity will affect multiple provinces, including Riyadh and surrounding governorates, with storms expected to be accompanied by strong downdraft winds capable of raising dust and sand and reducing visibility.

In some areas, conditions may also include hail, high waves along coastal zones, and a heightened risk of flash flooding in valleys and low-lying districts.

What is confirmed is that the weather system has already produced widespread precipitation in recent days, with authorities issuing repeated advisories urging residents to avoid flood-prone areas and exercise caution during periods of heavy rain.

Meteorological updates show that the instability is linked to active cloud formations moving across central and western parts of the country, a pattern that has been associated with recurring spring rainfall events in Saudi Arabia.

The current episode follows several recent weather disruptions in the Kingdom, including heavy rainfall and flooding in multiple regions, which have temporarily affected transportation and daily activity.

Civil defense warnings have been issued in parallel with meteorological alerts to reduce risk exposure during peak storm activity.

The broader outlook suggests that the weather system will not dissipate immediately, with continued thunderstorms expected over the coming days before conditions gradually stabilize.

However, the intensity and exact regional distribution of rainfall remain variable, and authorities have not provided a precise timeline for the full end of the unstable period.

What remains unclear is whether the ongoing rainfall will lead to further localized flooding beyond already affected areas or whether the system will shift quickly toward lighter, more isolated showers as atmospheric conditions evolve.
