Biden Calls for Gaza Ceasefire Amid Escalating Israel-Hezbollah Conflict, Advocates Two-State Solution in Final UN Address
The escalating conflict between Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah has resulted in nearly 500 deaths, including 35 children, and extensive damage, with Israel targeting 1,600 Hezbollah sites. This ongoing violence nearly provokes a full-scale war, affecting regional stability and Iran's strategic approach, while Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian criticizes international inaction.
In light of the turmoil, US President
Joe Biden, during his final UN General Assembly address, advocated for an end to the Gaza war, proposing a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He underscored the necessity of global cooperation to address various issues, including the violence in Lebanon, conflict in Sudan, poverty, and climate change, and highlighted his administration's efforts to stabilize the Middle East post-Hamas attacks on Israel.
Meanwhile, in Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Ayyaf, Mayor of Riyadh, inaugurated the Saudi Infrastructure Summit and Exhibition, focusing on sustainable city development aligned with Saudi Vision 2030. Supported by King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, this event featured sessions, workshops, and agreements to enhance infrastructure and improve quality of life, led by the Riyadh Infrastructure Projects Center (RIPC).
At the UN Assembly, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed Iran's willingness to cooperate with global powers to resolve its nuclear issue and called for peace in Ukraine through dialogue. He criticized Israel’s actions in Gaza and Lebanon, urging a permanent ceasefire, amidst deteriorating relations with the West due to Iranian support for Russia and the Hamas attack on Israel, compounded by US sanctions reinstated by former President
Donald Trump.
Similarly weighing in on the situation, Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib criticized President Biden's UN remarks, labeling them "not promising" and insufficient for Lebanon’s issues. Bou Habib stressed the importance of enhanced US diplomacy, especially given the severe displacement of Lebanese citizens due to the Israel conflict, and underscored the US role in achieving regional peace.

Serving the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier strike group, the ship remains operational in the area, with no reports of oil leaks or crew injuries, as private tugboats provide support and the extent of the damage is being evaluated.
