EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell has expressed deep concern over the escalating clashes between Israel and Lebanon's Iran-backed Hezbollah, warning that the situation could spiral into a full-fledged war.

On Monday, Borrell mentioned the increasing military strikes and casualties, highlighting that Lebanese authorities reported that Israeli airstrikes had killed at least 492 people, including 35 children, marking the deadliest day of cross-border violence since the Gaza conflict began.

Israel, in response, claimed to have targeted around 1,300 sites in southern and eastern Lebanon, resulting in substantial Hezbollah militant casualties.

Borrell emphasized the urgency for all parties to leverage their capacities to halt the violence, as diplomatic efforts have yet to yield significant results.
