LuLu sets Guinness World Record with largest flower pot mosaic for Saudi Arabia's 94th National Day. Meanwhile, Israel escalates attacks in Lebanon, intensifying regional tensions amidst UN Summit calls for reforms and global unity.
LuLu has achieved a stunning Guinness World Record by creating the world's largest flower pot mosaic, measuring 94 square meters and adorned with 125,000 fresh flowers, in celebration of Saudi Arabia's 94th National Day. This vibrant display, hosted at Roshn Waterfront Jeddah and supported by local authorities, featured an array of activities and prizes, with the Guinness certificate presented by adjudicator Mbali Masechaba Nkos to LuLu's western province team.
Meanwhile, at the UN Summit in New York, Syria's UN representative Qusay Al-Dahhak criticized the "Pact for the Future," endorsed by 143 UN member states, for failing to address meaningful organizational reforms and catering to Western interests. Al-Dahhak condemned the ongoing Western sanctions on Syria and actions by Israel in Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon, calling for comprehensive UN reforms for genuine multilateral cooperation.
On a more intense note, Israel has ramped up its campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon, with airstrikes targeting over a thousand sites, resulting in the tragic loss of over 490 lives and mass evacuations. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized that the conflict is directed at Hezbollah, not Lebanese civilians, who have been urged to evacuate dangerous areas, as Hezbollah fires back with rockets at Israeli military posts.
In response to the destruction, Lebanese MP Bahia Hariri appealed for global unity at the same UN Summit, representing Prime Minister Najib Mikati. Hariri highlighted the severe impact of the deadliest Israeli strikes since 2006 on Lebanon, which killed over 350 people, including women and children, and stressed the need to restore trust in international systems by upholding commitments like the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement.
Similarly pushing for reform, Mauritania's President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani called for giving Africa a stronger voice within the UN to overcome barriers to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Speaking from the UN headquarters in New York, Ghazouani pointed out the detrimental effects of wars, climate change, and imbalanced international governance, advocating for reforms to the UN Security Council and financial systems to accelerate African development.
Compounding the regional tension, Israel has escalated its attacks on Lebanon amidst a stalled Gaza truce and despite ongoing US efforts for de-escalation. President
Joe Biden faces significant domestic and international pressures as Israel, under Prime Minister Netanyahu's command, prioritizes military actions, having struck 1,000 sites in Lebanon, which has significantly hampered diplomacy and increased casualties.
