Egypt's El-Sisi Pushes for Gaza Ceasefire, Aid Deliveries, and Famine Prevention
Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is working to broker a ceasefire in Gaza, increase aid deliveries, and allow displaced people to move to safer areas in the north.
He warned against an Israeli incursion into Rafah, where over 1.5 million people have sought shelter near the border.
Aid officials have raised concerns about a potential famine in Gaza.
El-Sisi stated, "We are talking about reaching a ceasefire in Gaza, meaning a truce, providing the biggest quantity of aid, curbing the impact of this famine on people, and also allowing for the people in the center and the south to move toward the north, with a very strong warning against incursion into Rafah." Egypt's President El-Sisi warned of impending famine in Gaza due to the lack of aid entering the region.
Egypt, Qatar, and the United States have been attempting to mediate a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, with Egypt calling on Israel to open land crossings to allow more humanitarian aid into Gaza.
