Egypt Reaffirms Strong Support for Saudi Arabia as Sisi Condemns Iran’s Gulf Attacks
Cairo underscores shared Arab security and sovereignty while urging de-escalation amid intensifying regional conflict
Egypt has reaffirmed its strong backing for Saudi Arabia, with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi condemning Iran’s attacks on Gulf states and stressing the importance of defending Arab sovereignty and regional stability.
In a high-level communication with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Sisi expressed Egypt’s full solidarity with the kingdom, describing the strikes as a clear violation of the sovereignty of Arab nations.
He emphasised that the security of Gulf countries is closely tied to Egypt’s own national security, highlighting what he called a shared destiny among Arab states.
Cairo’s position reflects growing regional alignment in response to the escalating conflict involving Iran, which has seen missile and drone attacks targeting key infrastructure and population centres across the Gulf.
Egyptian officials underscored that such actions risk widening instability and undermining collective security efforts.
Sisi also praised Saudi Arabia’s leadership for its role in maintaining stability during a period of heightened tension, pointing to Riyadh’s efforts to contain escalation while protecting critical economic and energy assets.
The exchange between the two leaders reinforced longstanding ties between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, rooted in strategic cooperation and mutual support.
At the same time, Egypt signalled its intention to pursue diplomatic engagement, with the president outlining ongoing contacts with regional and international actors aimed at reducing tensions.
Cairo has positioned itself as both a supporter of Gulf partners and an advocate for de-escalation, seeking to prevent further deterioration of the security environment.
The development comes as a broader coalition of Arab and Muslim nations has voiced strong opposition to the recent wave of attacks, reflecting a unified stance against actions seen as threatening regional stability.
Analysts note that Egypt’s clear endorsement of Saudi Arabia adds weight to this collective response, reinforcing a coordinated approach to addressing the crisis.
As hostilities continue, Egypt’s message underscores the importance of unity among Arab states in confronting external threats, while maintaining a parallel focus on diplomatic solutions to avoid a wider conflict.
