ECOSEP Sports Medicine Conference Kicks Off in Riyadh: Prevention, Learning, and Quick Response
A major sports medicine conference, the European College of Sports and Exercise Physicians (ECOSEP) conference, began in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Thursday.
Over 60 speakers from 15 countries attended.
The conference, which runs until April 27, is being held at the Crowne Plaza Riyadh RDC and is supervised by the MOVE Center for Comprehensive Sports Medicine.
The MOVE Center is the first integrated sports medicine facility in the Kingdom, focusing on injury diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, education, and prevention.
Dr. Mubarak Al-Mutawa, the center's CEO, emphasized the importance of medical prevention in their approach.
Nikos Malliaropoulos, ECOSEP secretary general and sports consultant, emphasized the significance of a healthy lifestyle for a good quality life, which includes good nutrition and physical activity to prevent chronic conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure.
He also highlighted the importance of continuous learning in sports medicine, which is expanding globally.
Malliaropoulos expressed his excitement about being in Saudi Arabia to open the doors to sports exercise medicine, as the country will be hosting the World Cup in 10 years.
He believes that over the next decade, this knowledge needs to be shared with all healthcare professionals to prepare for the event.
Malliaropoulos shared that this course had a profound impact on his life and practice 20 years ago, inspiring him to develop further in the field.
Dr. Amir Pakravan, a sports and musculoskeletal medicine consultant and ECOSEP board member, shares that his experience in fast-paced medical environments has prepared him for his role as a sports consultant.
During games, he carries a checklist of procedures to ensure a swift response if an injury occurs.
Pakravan emphasizes the importance of focusing on procedures.
The three-day conference will feature workshops and sessions with industry leaders and officials, extending efforts in the Saudi sports sector under Vision 2030.
