Belgium Summons Israeli Ambassador Over Airstrike Killing Enabel Employee and Family
Belgium's Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib announced on Thursday that she will summon Israel's ambassador to condemn the death of an Enabel aid worker, Abdallah Nabhan, and members of his family in a Gaza airstrike.
The incident occurred in the eastern part of Rafah city, and Nabhan was killed along with his seven-year-old son, 65-year-old father, 35-year-old brother, and six-year-old niece.
The bombing of civilian areas and populations is considered a violation of international law.
Hadja Lahbib expressed condolences for the family of Nabhan, who was killed along with 25 others in an Israeli airstrike on their home in Gaza.
The victims were sheltering there and included displaced people.
Nabhan had worked on a Belgian development project and was on a list eligible to leave Gaza, but was killed before being granted permission.
The Belgian embassy condemned the attack as a violation of international humanitarian law and demanded an explanation from Israel.
The health ministry in Gaza, led by the Hamas militant group, reports that over 34,000 people have died in the ongoing conflict in the Palestinian territory, with the majority being women and children.
In response to a Hamas attack that killed around 1,170 people in Israel on October 7, Israel is carrying out airstrikes and ground operations.
The European Union, with Belgium at the helm, is strongly criticizing Israel's military action for causing disproportionate harm to Palestinian civilians.
