A Syrian woman, Ahlam Albashir, was sentenced to seven life terms in prison by a Turkish court for carrying out a bombing in Istanbul's Istiklal Avenue on Nov. 13, 2022.
Six people were killed and over 100 were injured in the explosion.
Albashir was convicted of murder and "disrupting the unity and integrity of the state." More than 30 people were accused in connection to the explosion, four of whom were released, ten were ordered to be tried in absentia, and twenty others received prison sentences ranging from four years to life, including six with aggravated life sentences.
A bomb explosion occurred in Istanbul, Turkey, and the Turkish government accused Kurdish militants, specifically the YPG and PKK, of being responsible.
The YPG and PKK denied involvement, and no group claimed responsibility.
Istanbul has previously been targeted by various militant groups, including Kurdish, Islamist, and leftist organizations.
A major wave of attacks began in 2015 when a ceasefire between Ankara and the PKK broke down.
The PKK, which has been in conflict with Turkey since 1984, is considered a terrorist organization by Turkey, the EU, and the US.
