TAQA and JERA to Build Cogeneration Plant with Saudi Aramco Total in Saudi Arabia: A Sustainable Solution for SATORP's Energy Needs
Abu Dhabi's TAQA and Japan's JERA have agreed to build a cogeneration plant with Saudi Aramco Total Refining and Petrochemical (SATORP) in Saudi Arabia.
The plant, located in Jubail's Amiral petrochemical complex, will produce electricity and steam for the facility.
The complex is set to house a large mixed-load steam cracker.
The cogeneration plant will feature advanced power and steam generation systems, gas and water receiving systems, and gas-insulated switchgear interconnections, all while meeting Saudi Energy Efficiency Centre's efficiency standards.
A new cogeneration plant, named Amiral, will be built at an petrochemical facility in collaboration between TAQA and JERA.
The plant will produce power and steam, and has the potential for carbon dioxide capture and hydrogen cofiring.
The special purpose entity owned by TAQA (51%) and JERA (49%) will operate the plant for 25 years with an option for extension.
TAQA's CEO, Farid Al Awlaqi, expressed confidence in delivering essential utilities effectively, following the signing of the power and steam offtake agreements.
TAQA and JERA are collaborating to build a cogeneration plant that will help reduce carbon emissions for SATORP, supporting their decarbonization program.
The plant will provide stable, efficient, clean, and reliable power and steam to SATORP, enhancing their operational efficiency and demonstrating commitment to environmental stewardship.
The partnership aligns with TAQA's growth goals and JERA's ambitions for sustainable power generation solutions in the region.
