Meta has banned Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei from Facebook and Instagram for breach of its content policies, especially those concerning dangerous organizations and individuals.
Despite supporting Hamas' aggression and sympathizing with Palestinian and Huthi rebel actions against Israel, Khamenei has denied Iran's involvement in violent activities.
The ban follows Hamas' assault on Israel on October 7, after which Khamenei faced scrutiny from Meta. With 35 years in power and a following of five million on Instagram, his removal from the platforms aims to curb the promotion and encouragement of violence in accordance with Meta's stringent rules.
Although
Facebook and Instagram are officially blocked in Iran, citizens commonly bypass such bans using VPNs to access global social media networks.
