Palestinians in Rafah Live in 'Constant Terror': At Least 36 Killed in Israeli Airstrikes; Israel Proposes Ceasefire Deal

Palestinians in Rafah, a city in southern Gaza, expressed fear and terror as Israel prepares for an assault, with dozens of tanks and armored vehicles amassed near the border.
Residents, including Nidaa Safi and her family who had fled previous strikes, live in constant fear of displacement and invasion.

The Gaza Health Ministry reported that at least 34,388 people have been killed and 77,437 injured during more than six months of war between Israel and Hamas militants.

In the past 24 hours, at least 32 people were killed in the conflict.

On April 27, 2024, in Rafah, Gaza Strip, an airstrike hit a house in the Tel Sultan neighborhood, resulting in the deaths of a man, his wife, their three sons (ages 12, 10, and 8), and a 4-month-old neighbor's girl.

Another strike later that day killed seven people, including six members of the Ashour family, and five people were killed in a strike on a house in the Nuseirat refugee camp.

Neighbors found only bodies and body parts after the initial strike.

Israeli forces shot and killed two Palestinian men at a checkpoint in the West Bank, according to the military.

The men reportedly opened fire at the troops.

Violence in the West Bank has escalated since the war, resulting in the death of 491 Palestinians at the hands of Israeli forces.

Hamas is considering Israel's latest ceasefire proposal, which includes the suspension of the Rafah incursion if Israeli hostages are released.

Meanwhile, Israeli bombardments have destroyed homes in Rafah.

Israeli official Israel Katz prioritizes hostage release and is considering suspending military operations if a deal is reached.

Egypt discusses a new vision for a prolonged ceasefire in Gaza with Hamas and Israel.

Hamas has received a response from Israel regarding a ceasefire proposal and hostage exchange, but it's unclear if the discussions are related.

Previous negotiations focused on a six-week ceasefire and releasing 40 hostages for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.

Hamas and Israeli officials are working on a compromise to end the ongoing conflict in Gaza, according to an Israeli official.

However, Hamas has not mentioned any Israeli proposal for a ceasefire and has reiterated its demands for a permanent ceasefire and full withdrawal of Israeli troops.

Meanwhile, Hamas' armed wing has released video footage of two hostages, Keith Siegel and Omri Miran, being held in Gaza.

Mediators are trying to find a solution that addresses the main demands of both parties, which could lead to continued negotiations and a potential deal to end the war.

Israeli police stood by as protestors demonstrated near the Erez crossing between Israel and Gaza.

Israel refuses to cease military operations against Hamas in Gaza and intends to maintain a security presence there.

There is increasing international pressure for a ceasefire to prevent an Israeli attack on Rafah, where over half of Gaza's population has sought refuge.

Israel has long planned a ground offensive into Rafah, where they believe Hamas militants are hiding, despite warnings of potential humanitarian and regional consequences.

The US, a key Israeli ally, has criticized Israeli policies in the West Bank.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has determined that an Israeli army unit committed human rights abuses before the Gaza war, but has delayed a decision on withholding aid to the unit to give Israel more time to address the issue.

Blinken emphasized that overall US military support for Israel's defense would not be affected.

The US is also constructing a pier in Gaza to deliver aid through a new port, which is expected to be operational by early May. The UK government is considering sending troops to transport the aid to shore, but has not yet commented.

A Turkish aid flotilla was prevented from sailing.

College protests against the war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas are increasing in the US, with similar demonstrations taking place in various countries.

The conflict began on October 7 when Hamas militants launched attacks on southern Israel, resulting in the deaths of approximately 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and the capture of around 250 hostages.

Israel reports that around 100 hostages remain in militant custody and the remains of over 30 others have yet to be located.
