Saudi National Orchestra and Choir Perform in Historic Rome Concert

A landmark cultural event blends Saudi and Italian musical traditions at the Colosseum Archaeological Park.
DUBAI: The Saudi Music Commission's 'Marvels of Saudi Orchestra' world tour made a significant stop in Rome on Friday, with a large-scale performance at the Temple of Venus and Rome within the Colosseum Archaeological Park.

The concert was a collaborative effort featuring both Saudi and Italian musical traditions, highlighted by a special appearance from renowned Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli.

The event brought together 32 musicians from the Saudi National Orchestra and Choir alongside 30 members of the Fontane di Roma Youth Orchestra, conducted by Marcello Rota.

The concert program was designed to showcase a blend of Saudi, Italian, and international compositions, highlighting cross-cultural artistic exchange between Saudi Arabia and Italy.

In addition to contemporary orchestral works, traditional Saudi performing arts played a central role in the evening's festivities.

A group of 55 performers presented cultural dances including Ardah Wadi Al-Dawasir, Al-Khatwa, and Yanbaawi, with participation from the Theater and Performing Arts Commission of Saudi Arabia.

Among the concert's highlights was 'Al-Hijr and Rome,' a collaborative composition written by Dr. Suleiman Al-Theeb, which explored the centuries-long cultural exchange and dialogue between Saudi Arabia and Italy.

This piece aimed to reflect on the rich history of collaboration between the two nations.

Paul Pacifico, CEO of the Saudi Music Commission, emphasized the significance of this event: "Presenting 'Marvels of Saudi Orchestra' at the Colosseum Archaeological Park marks a landmark moment for Saudi music and symbolizes the power of cultural dialogue.

By uniting Saudi musicians with Italian artists and the Fontane di Roma Youth Orchestra on such an iconic stage, we are not only sharing our musical heritage but also fostering creative partnerships that will shape the future of our music ecosystem".

Andrea Bocelli expressed his appreciation for the collaboration, describing it as a beautiful example of how music can transcend cultures and bring people together.

This performance in Rome is part of an ongoing international tour by the 'Marvels of Saudi Orchestra,' aiming to introduce Saudi Arabia's rich musical heritage to global audiences and establish lasting cultural exchanges.
