Saudi Arabia's Environmental Initiatives at Our Ocean Conference: Protecting Oceans and Promoting Sustainability
The Our Ocean Conference in Athens began on Tuesday with Saudi Arabia presenting their environmental protection and sustainability initiatives.
The conference, themed "Our Ocean: An Ocean of Potential," brings together government representatives, businesses, activists, and experts to discuss various topics related to marine environments.
These topics include protected marine areas, sustainable blue economies, maritime security, climate change, sustainable fishing, marine pollution, sustainable tourism, reducing plastic pollution, green shipping, and the green transition in the Mediterranean.
The Saudi Arabian delegation, headed by Mohammed Qurban, the CEO of the National Center for Wildlife, attended a two-day conference focusing on protecting oceans, water resources, and the sustainable use of marine resources.
Qurban emphasized the Kingdom's commitment to supporting global initiatives aimed at achieving Sustainable Development Goals and preserving the environment.
He mentioned several national projects, such as the Saudi Green Initiative, which aims to increase protected areas to cover 30% of the country's land and sea territory and plant 100 million mangrove trees by 2030.
The Kingdom is committed to protecting nature and ecological treasures, with a focus on the Red Sea region.
They are prepared to invest resources and efforts in sustainable conservation.
Participating in conferences like Our Ocean Conference facilitates knowledge sharing, idea exchange, and collaboration to tackle environmental challenges and promote sustainable practices.
Since its launch in 2014, the conference has resulted in 2,160 commitments worth $130 billion.
