Kuwait's Anti-Smoking Campaign: Protecting Children and Vulnerable Populations from Tobacco Hazards (May 2023)
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Health is launching an anti-smoking awareness campaign on Thursday to protect children from the dangers of tobacco.
The campaign, which will collaborate with various ministries and state agencies, aims to highlight the importance of safeguarding vulnerable populations from smoking hazards.
The Health Promotion Department's director, Dr. Abeer Al-Baho, stated that the campaign will reach out to men, women, and children and will emphasize the negative effects of smoking, legal consequences for smoking in unauthorized areas, and the protection of individuals with health vulnerabilities, minors, and the environment.
Al-Baho highlighted the importance of the ongoing campaign to reduce smoking-related diseases and deaths, focusing on the damage to the lungs, heart, and links to various types of cancer.
The campaign, which runs until May 31 and covers all six Kuwaiti governorates, includes demonstrations of smoking hazards.
The World Health Organization reported a threefold increase in e-cigarette usage among children aged 13-15 compared to adults, leading to concerns about the risks of tobacco in all forms, including traditional smoking and e-cigarettes.
