Israeli Soldiers Kill Two Palestinian Gunmen in West Bank Shootout
Israeli soldiers shot and killed two Palestinian gunmen in the West Bank on Saturday after they opened fire on the soldiers from a vehicle.
The military released a photo of the automatic rifles used in the attack.
Two other men were wounded.
The official Palestinian news agency confirmed the deaths, but there was no immediate comment from Palestinian officials in the West Bank, where violence has been increasing due to Israel's ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza.
In October 2021, Israel initiated a military offensive in Gaza following a Hamas-led attack that resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people and the kidnapping of 253 in southern Israel.
Over 34,000 Palestinians have been killed since then, and most of the population has been displaced.
The violence in the West Bank, which had been escalating prior to the war, has continued with increased Israeli raids and Palestinian street attacks.
The West Bank and Gaza, territories Israel captured in the 1967 war, are areas the Palestinians aim to include in their sought-after state.
