Iran’s Araghchi Calls for Unified Regional Action on Yemen in Talks With UAE and Saudi Foreign Ministers
Tehran urges Gulf neighbours to coordinate for Yemen’s unity and stability amid intensifying southern conflict
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, has made direct appeals for enhanced regional cooperation to address the escalating crisis in Yemen, speaking separately with his counterparts in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
In telephone discussions, Araghchi emphasised the importance of supporting Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity and called on Gulf states to work more closely to help resolve developments that risk further destabilising the war-torn nation.
In his call with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Araghchi welcomed what both sides described as improving bilateral ties and highlighted the need for stronger regional coordination to reinforce peace and security in Yemen.
He said that Iran believes the Yemeni conflict can be resolved only through inclusive intra-Yemeni dialogue and by respecting the legitimate aspirations of the Yemeni people.
Sheikh Abdullah echoed the priority of maintaining peace and underscored the UAE’s efforts to reduce tensions in the country.
Araghchi later spoke with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, again focusing on Yemen’s situation and reiterating the need to preserve the country’s unity and implement agreed-upon roadmaps for political settlement.
The calls come as fighting and political fragmentation have intensified in southern Yemen, where the United Arab Emirates-backed Southern Transitional Council has seized control of key governorates in recent weeks, prompting pressure from Saudi Arabia for de-escalation and withdrawal.
Against this backdrop, Araghchi’s outreach signals Tehran’s interest in engaging regional powers to mitigate fragmentation and promote a negotiated approach to end conflict and instability in Yemen.
