Hayy Jameel Facade Commission: Calling Saudi Artists to Reimagine Jeddah's Landmark Building
The Hayy Jameel Facade Commission is inviting artists in Saudi Arabia to submit proposals to redesign the facade of the Hayy Jameel art building in Jeddah.
In its fourth year and third open call process, the commission aims to select a winning artwork that encourages dialogue between the building, its community, and the public.
Art Jameel, the organization behind the commission, is dedicated to promoting arts in public life and providing a platform for mid-career artists to create large-scale, imaginative works that will be displayed on the facade for approximately 10 months.
The text describes a commission for artists to create a public work in Saudi Arabia.
Artists are encouraged to consider the unique site and technical requirements of the project, as well as sustainability.
Eligibility is open to all Saudi and Saudi-based artists and collectives with at least one Saudi citizen or resident.
Selected artists will receive a fee and production budget.
Applicants must submit a concept statement, sketches, and production schedule through the application portal.
A jury of local and international professionals will choose one work for production.
The deadline for submitting facade designs for a building has been extended to May 1, with the launch planned for October.
After the unveiling, there will be a public viewing period from October 2024 to September 2025.
Notable artists who have previously showcased their work on the building include Nasser Al-Mulhim, Tamara Kalo, Mohammad Al-Faraj, and Dr. Zahrah Al-Ghamdi.
