Five skiers found dead and one missing in Swiss Alps
Five skiers have been discovered deceased in the Swiss Alps, with a sixth skier still missing.
The group initially went missing near the Tete Blanche peak, prompting a massive search effort since Saturday.
Although they began their journey in Zermatt, known for the iconic Matterhorn, they encountered severe weather conditions which obstructed rescue efforts. All the skiers were Swiss, aged between 21 and 58.
Despite harsh alpine winds and heavy snowfall, rescuers identified their last location through a non-verbal signal. The route they took is part of the challenging Haute Route, stretching 120km, and typically requires advanced ski skills.
